bd

so, after the little skype session about your new strategy for business development, i sense slight weariness and fustration.

anyway, here’s my 2 cents worth (for all that matters, it was alittle after my heavy meal of Adam Rd Nasi Lemak and Tiong Bahru Indian Rojak that I thought of this train of ideas, which I had better get it down before it slips me by) …

bd isn’t a one off thing, neither is it an overnight thing, especially not in the industry that you are in – training – where usually the aim is to achieve long term benefits and development for the customers. therefore results aren’t short term and we should not be overwhelmed or discouraged by luke warm response in the short run.

I would say focusing on a particular area or industry for BD would be a good choice, but considering that you are only 1 person doing all the work for bd, I would suggest actually to cover a few areas or industries simultaneously. Since you do not have the luxury of a team where there are individual people covering specific industries and the fact that results aren’t immediate, it’s possibly better in the long run to establish yourself in a couple of industries (not all, but some which you had already identified as some potential). Being too focused on 1 area only and then switching when you think it’s not good probably migt not be as effective as every few months, in the worst case scenario, you would have to switch strategy and mindset.

Therefore, multi prong approach, where you continue to follow up on leads in the areas you have already identified, but also slowly explore other growth areas. Do it in stages so you wouldn’t be overwhelm all at once. Possibly the rewards would only come in later, but by then you would have a larger “potential” customer base to keep casting your net over.

and that’s all for tonight. back to moi coding, which shall continue on throughout tmr, which is a FREE day!, yea!
